Following the devastating earthquake, a powerful tsunami struck the coastal areas, causing widespread destruction and loss. Video footage documented the terrifying moment when a massive wave forcefully crashed over a sea wall in Suzu, leaving onlookers in awe of its sheer force.

The aftermath of such natural disasters often includes numerous aftershocks, and as reported by the reputable United States Geological Survey (USGS), multiple smaller tremors were detected near the epicenter. These aftershocks have the potential to persist for months, further compounding the challenges faced by affected communities and emphasizing the long-lasting impact of this catastrophic event.

According to Hough, following a large earthquake, aftershocks are expected to occur. There is a possibility that some of these aftershocks could be even greater than magnitude 6, posing their own hazard.
