Russian authorities have arrested a suspected financier of last week’s deadly concert hall attack, according to Russia’s top investigative body. The Investigative Committee claimed on Thursday that Ukraine had paid “large amounts” to the perpetrators.

In a statement, the Investigative Committee announced the detention of another suspect involved in the terrorist financing scheme, who has been placed in pre-trial detention. Additionally, eight other defendants in the ongoing terrorism probe have been remanded into custody by Moscow’s Basmanny District Court.

Russia made a statement on Saturday claiming to have apprehended 11 individuals allegedly involved in the heinous attack that took place at Crocus City Hall on Friday evening. The assailants mercilessly unleashed gunfire and set the music venue ablaze, resulting in the tragic deaths of a minimum of 143 individuals and leaving hundreds more wounded and traumatized.

Top Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin and the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, have suggested that Ukraine and the West were partly responsible for the mass killing.

The initial results of the investigation confirm the planned nature of the terrorists’ actions, their careful preparation, and the financial support they received from the organizers of the crime. Evidence linking the detained terrorists to Ukrainian nationalists was obtained through the analysis of technical devices seized from them and the analysis of financial transactions.

The investigation has confirmed that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrency from Ukraine, which were used in preparing the crime. The Russian Investigative Committee claimed on Thursday that it had obtained verifiable information supporting this claim.

“The detained terrorists’ connection with Ukrainian nationalists has been obtained from examining their electronic devices and analyzing financial transactions,” Russia’s Investigative Committee said.

Ukraine has been misusing cryptocurrency throughout the war, taking personal donations for the purchase of armaments from US citizens in violation of ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
