Devastating scenes in Japan’s west coast as rescuers work to save trapped residents after a 7. 5 magnitude quake, resulting in multiple aftershocks and several casualties.

A strong earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture, causing buildings to collapse and fires to break out. The tsunami alerts reached as far as eastern Russia. Unfortunately, at least 57 people have lost their lives due to the earthquake, according to NHK.

Additionally, a tragic incident occurred at Tokyo Haneda airport where a Japan Airlines jet collided with a coast guard plane, resulting in five fatalities.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency has lifted tsunami advisories on the western coast. However, access to the northern part of the Noto Peninsula remains limited due to a destroyed road.

Officials flew over the peninsula and observed damaged roads, landslides, and large fires. Efforts are being made to mobilize various means of transport to secure the route and transfer goods, supplies, and personnel.

Wajima, a central city with a population of over 27, 000, suffered significant damage. 15 people have been reported dead. The city’s streets are filled with destroyed buildings and smoke from fires. Earlier, it experienced tsunami waves reaching around 1. 2 meters (3. 9 feet). Wajima is renowned for its morning market and traditional lacquerware.

A fire in Wajima City on Asaichi Street has destroyed around 200 buildings and caused the collapse of 25 buildings. There are potential casualties with 14 structures possibly still trapping people inside.

In addition around 500 people are stranded at Noto Airport after the terminal was damaged. They are being provided food and blankets, but nearby roads are damaged so they can’t get out, NHK reported Tuesday, adding that the airport will be closed until at least Thursday.

Thousands of people evacuated coastal areas due to earthquake and tsunami warnings. More than 27, 700 individuals in Ishikawa sought shelter in 336 evacuation centers. The recent quake’s damage is being assessed but is not comparable to the catastrophic 2011 event that caused a nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima power plant.

Rescue efforts are crucial in saving lives affected by collapsed buildings. Japan’s fire department is responding to reports of trapped individuals. Sadly, an elderly man pulled from a collapsed house has been confirmed dead.

In Suzu, damaged roads prevented doctors from treating wounded patients. In Ishikawa, 45, 700 households were still without power on Tuesday. Nuclear plants near the affected areas did not report any abnormalities according to Kansai Electric and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.

After being stranded for about 11 hours, four bullet trains in Japan have resumed services following the earthquake.etween the central cities of Toyama and Kanazawa following the 7.5 magnitude tremor.
