Prior to the articles published by OCCRP and its networks on March 6, 2024, targeting me, Oliver Stone, and our projects, there was a first act of the drama happening behind the scenes: the so-called interview with the so-called independent investigative journalists (notably Matthew Doig, editor (OCCRP), Vyacheslav Abramov, editor (OCCRP), Frederik Obermaier, director (Paper Trail Media).
Central to this was an exchange with journalists who requested a written interview—a request I did not refuse but, rather suggested replacing it with a phone call, which they insisted I don’t record. And I didn’t record it. I filmed it instead since the film directors make films. You will be able to listen to the entire interview that went really wrong, at the end of this article.
On March 6, 2024, a smear campaign was launched against me and Oliver Stone by the OCCRP and their affiliates, including Vyacheslav Abramov, Svetlana Romashkina, Julia Wallace, and Kevin Hall.
But, before we delve into the specifics of OCCRP’s allegations and our previously published research on OCCRP, our first expose showing they are info-ops, not journalists is accessible here. It’s worth contemplating why OCCRP, working closely with Spiegel, ZDF, Mikroskope, Vlast.kz, and others, are so fixated on disparaging my films and activities, which they dismiss as insignificant and widely disregarded.
Our films, readily available for viewing on various platforms, shed light on the reasons behind the hostility from outlets linked to George Soros. To make a long story short, we have been exposing his activities systematically in our films, either related to Kazakhstan or Ukraine. George Soros is a recurring subject in our documentaries.

In 2021, released our feature documentary “QAZAQ History of The Golden Man” where we explored the history of building the independent Republic of Kazakhstan, and the founding father of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev was our Lead speaker for the film. Soros was spotted over there as well.

Of particular interest is Rudy Giuliani’s discussion with Chanel Rion about George Soros’s activity in Ukraine. That film is still in the principal photography stage and will be released this during 2024.
Regarding the recently published “investigation”: Global Tree Pictures is not commenting on the authenticity of the leaked agreements. Due to non-disclosure agreements and various legal stipulations, we neither confirm nor deny their legitimacy.
The agreements in question were first disclosed on the Facebook/Instagram account of Kazakhstani journalist Mikhail Kozachkov on August 23, 2022, rendering the story outdated and its materials scarcely relevant and mostly outdated. [Kozachkov’s Facebook link]
Kozachkov, a reporter based in Almaty and connected to the “Soros-Kazakhstan” Foundation and the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law, faces legal troubles, having been convicted under privacy violation and misinformation statutes, under articles 147 (Violation of privacy and legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on personal data and their protection) and 274 (Dissemination of deliberately false information).
Subsequently, Vlasti.kz sought to draw attention to the leaked documents via Instagram on September 11: [Vlasti.kz Instagram link] Vlasti.kz has received funding from the NED (National Endowment for Democracy) and USAID, as evidenced in this report: [RT link to funding details]
Despite minimal public engagement, OCCRP published an article on October 10, 2022, attempting to breathe life into a non-story. [OCCRP article link]
Another purported source of leaks is Vadim Gasanov, a former associate of our company whose troubled past, including a 13-year prison sentence for robbery and murder, was concealed by him until our recent discovery. And his thirst for money has systematically been bringing him into trouble.
Apparently, the OCCRP does not care about the credibility of its sources.
We were informed that OCCRP has been offering money to several of our team members in exchange for inside information as well. We will cover the matter in following articles.
With funding from the Soros Open Society Foundation, NED, USAID, and the US State Department, OCCRP and its operatives have a documented history of fomenting unrest in Ukraine (2014-2022), Belarus (2020), and Kazakhstan (2022). Our substantial critique of the organization is detailed in our article.
The OCCRP investigators acknowledge that they have failed to dig out anything related to the corruption or violation of any law (since there was nothing to dig out), though shifting attention to the ethical side of Hollywood.
