The House Homeland Security Committee, led by the GOP, approved articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the early hours of Wednesday following an extensive markup session. Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., stated, “The facts are indisputable—for three years, Secretary Mayorkas has willfully and systematically disregarded the laws passed by Congress, breaching the public trust. His actions have led to this unprecedented crisis, effectively turning every state into a border state.”
“As a result, thousands of Americans have lost their lives, and our nation is currently facing an unprecedented crisis in terms of national security, public safety, and humanitarian concerns. It is important to acknowledge that Secretary Mayorkas’ actions go against the principles set forth by the Framers of our Constitution, which is why the process of impeachment exists as a remedy.
The historical record unequivocally shows that Congress has the power of impeachment to hold public officials accountable when they fail to fulfill their duties and when significant harm is inflicted upon our political system,” he added.
The articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, which passed by a vote of 18-15, address allegations of a “breach of trust” and a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law.” These articles will be further reviewed by the full House of Representatives at a later date.
