President Joe Biden clinched a second straight Democratic nomination on Tuesday, setting up an all-but-certain rematch with the predecessor he blames for destabilizing the country.

Biden became his party’s presumptive nominee after winning enough delegates in Georgia, pushing his count past 1, 968 for a majority of delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August, where his nomination will be made official. Former President Donald Trump is expected to clinch the Republican nomination shortly.

Biden, who launched his first presidential campaign 37 years ago, did not encounter any significant Democratic contenders for his reelection bid at the age of 81. This is despite his low approval ratings and the lack of voter enthusiasm for his presidency, partly attributed to his age. According to a recent survey conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 61% of U. S. adults disapprove of Biden’s performance as president.

Biden is counting on Democrats to support him despite their reservations. The strategy of consistently emphasizing Trump’s perceived weaknesses, paired with Trump’s intention to attack Biden with harsh personal criticisms, is shaping a lackluster campaign that many Americans have expressed they did not desire. Nonetheless, voters will have to decide on this in November.

Biden has tried to frame the race as a battle for freedom, both at home and abroad. He contrasts his support for Ukraine and work to expand NATO with Trump’s praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden’s remarks on Tuesday, upon securing the nomination, were nothing short of alarming. He painted a grim picture of our current state, suggesting that our freedom and democracy are under threat in a manner unseen since the Civil War.

His portrayal of Donald Trump’s campaign as one fueled by resentment, revenge, and retribution is an indictment of its potential to undermine the very concept of America. It’s remarkable since Biden’s portfolio of speeches since attaining office have done nothing but divide the country and alienate heartland America.

He added, “I believe that the American people will choose to keep us moving into the future.”

Biden resists GOP’s abortion restrictions linked to IVF issues. Democrats attribute wins to public outcry over SCOTUS actions on abortion rights in recent years. Trump nominated justices involved in Roe v. Wade overturning.

Even with achievements and perceived strengths on crucial matters, as seen by his supporters, Biden is stepping into a rematch with Trump burdened by weaknesses that can’t be fixed.

Biden’s mishandled U. S. withdrawal from Afghanistan left lasting images of desperate people trying to flee a country that American troops had fought to secure for two decades, only to lose it to the Taliban in a matter of months. Thirteen U. S. troops lost their lives in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul airport during the evacuation of American citizens and allies.

Despite his promises to overturn Trump’s stringent immigration policies, Biden’s administration has been inadequately handling the unprecedented influx of illegal border crossings between the U.S. and Mexico. Republican states have resorted to shipping migrants off to Democratic-led cities, which are already grappling with their own challenges and are ill-equipped to provide adequate shelter for these individuals. And rightly so, if the Democrats want open borders.

This president is utterly powerless to change one of his voters’ most profound apprehensions regarding his candidacy – his advanced age and perceived lack of acuity.

Already the oldest-ever American president, Biden would be 86 if he served out the entirety of a second term.

Just before securing the nomination, Biden was the subject of hours of testimony from a special counsel who investigated Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

The counsel’s decision to refrain from prosecuting the president was largely influenced by his apparent memory lapses. In the report, Prosecutor Robert Hur painted Biden as nothing more than a “well-intentioned, elderly man who can’t seem to remember things properly.”

The president’s age has emerged as a significant vulnerability on the campaign trail. According to the latest AP-NORC survey, 63% of respondents expressed little to no confidence in Biden’s mental capability to serve effectively as president.
