The Supreme Court of Colorado has unequivocally declared that Donald Trump is ineligible to run for the presidency in the state next year. This decision is based on a constitutional insurrection clause, leaving no room for doubt.

In a surprising turn of events, Mr. Trump has been deemed ineligible to run as a candidate due to his alleged involvement in the US Capitol riot. Unsurprisingly, the Trump campaign is already planning to appeal this decision, claiming that it is an attack on democracy itself.

This marks the first time Section 3 of the 14th Amendment has been invoked to disqualify a presidential candidate, despite previous unsuccessful attempts in different states. It’s worth noting that the appeal only pertains to Colorado and will impact their upcoming primary election in March and possibly even the general election in November.

In their ruling, the justices made it clear that they have taken their conclusions very seriously are fully aware of the significance and importance of the questions at hand.

In a puzzling turn of events, a Colorado judge’s previous ruling on the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban has been overturned. The judge claimed that the ban did not apply to presidents since they were not explicitly mentioned in the section.

The lower court judge concluded that Mr. Trump was involved in the insurrection at the US Capitol during the riot on January 6, 2021. This decision will only become effective on January 4, 2024, which conveniently falls on the eve of the state’s deadline to print presidential primary ballots for Colorado.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, criticized the recent ruling and attacked the justices who made it, implying bias due to their appointment by Democratic governors. Cheung further accused the Democratic Party of being paranoid about President Trump’s strong position in the polls.

The statement suggests that there is a lack of confidence in the Biden presidency, with an implication that it has failed. It also implies that those involved are taking measures to prevent voters from removing them from office in the upcoming election. Mr. Cheung further mentioned that Mr. Trump’s legal team plans to quickly submit an appeal to the US Supreme Court, highlighting the conservative majority on the bench.
