Thirteen Republican governors, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, gathered in Eagle Pass, Texas on Sunday to express their dedication to border security and the states’ constitutional rights to self-defense.

“Half of the governors of the United States have joined Texas in our cause to ensure that states take all necessary measures to secure our border,” stated Abbott. “We are here to send a strong message that we are uniting to protect our constitutional right for states to defend against any imminent danger or invasion, which has been threatened due to Joe Biden’s failure to enforce immigration laws in the United States of America.”

Abbott cited the self-defense clause of the U. S. Constitution, specifically Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3. More than 50 Texas counties have also cited this clause in their invasion declarations. The governor emphasized that they are all united in the fight for a safer and more secure border and country.

Additionally, the governors of Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Utah joined Abbott.

They appeared in Shelby Park, where concertina wire barriers are the focus of one of three lawsuits filed over border barriers in the Eagle Pass area between Texas and the federal government. According to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, there are currently hundreds of Tennessee troops serving along the Texas-Mexico border.

“We are prepared, even today, to send additional troops to work with the Texas Department of Military to do just that,” said Lee. He added that states were taking on the job that the federal government had failed to do, which is to protect the country.”Each one of us understands the devastating effects that the border policy has had on our individual states. We are here together to collaboratively work, support Texas, and ensure the safety and security of people across the country,” Lee concluded.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed solidarity with Abbott, stating that they were standing together because every state in the country is now a border state. Kemp emphasized the importance of securing the border, as he believes that an insecure border compromises the safety and security of the entire nation.

He also criticized the policies of President Joe Biden, suggesting that they are contributing to making the country less safe.
